The 2013 FIRST Robotics Palmetto Regional Competition continues at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Hundreds of people gathered to watch the 65 teams compete.

“It took us six weeks of designing and planning to build our robot” said Joe Bolewitz, a high school student from Michigan.

Organizers said high schoolers from 12 states participated in this year's event.

“People think it is a game but it is more than a game. It is more than an individual, ” said Jack Moore, event organizer. “It is an alliance you will see teams competing and they have to learn to work together and strategize”.

Organizers said the event helps expand science and technology skills and build the next generation of technology based leaders. The event continues through March 2, 2013.
