The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the 17 year old swimmer who died after being pulled from the water off Sullivan's Island Tuesday afternoon.
James Williamson of North Charleston was pulled from the water near Station 28 1/2 just a few blocks from Breech Inlet. Williamson's cause of death is still being investigated.
A slew of first responders rushed to Sullivan's Island Tuesday afternoon to respond to a 911 call concerning three people who were struggling in the water.
Sullivan's Island Fire Department said the person who called 911 said he could no longer see his friends in the water.
A witness said all three males were swimmers. There was a moderate risk for rip currents at the time.
Another witness said the last swimmer pulled from the water was given CPR.
Firefighters from Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms and Mount Pleasant all responded, as well as, Charleston County EMS, the Charleston County boat team, Coast Guard and Department of Natural Resources.
The call came in at 4:12 p.m. and rescue efforts wrapped up around 6:26pm
