NEWS13SPORTS (WBTW) –Socastee will not be able to fly under the radar as they open their season with a new coach.

Horry County rivals Socastee and Carolina Forest will open the season up as The Blitz/Sun News Grand Strand Game of the Week on Friday.

Doug Illing is the new boss for the Braves and will hit the field to take on one of the school's biggest rivals–Carolina Forest.  Socastee lost a handful of starters from the 2012 team who finished the regular season a perfect 10-0. However, playmaking quarterback Hunter Renfrow is back for his senior season.

Carolina Forest is hoping to get off to a strong start after a disappointing 3-8 campaign in 2012. The Panthers return nine offensive skill guys including TE Ryan Yurachek who has committed to play at Marshall Unviersity. Yurachek's quarterback, Will Brunson, is being recruited by a handful of colleges.

Last year, Socastee defeated Carolina Forest 49-40.  That win by Socastee snapped a 3-game winning streak by the Panthers over the Braves.

In The Blitz's Pee Dee Game of the Week, Class 2A state champion Dillon will host a North Carolina power Mallard Creek.

Dillon will return their sophomore start quarterback Avery McCall–a dual threat quarterback who already has offers from South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina and Tennessee. At McCall's disposal is 2000-yard running back Anthony Blue.

Joe Blue will lead the Wildcats defense. The linebacker committed to the University of South Carolina earlier in the year.

Mallard Creek (NC) finished last year (10-2) and lost in the 4A State Semifinal game.
