RALEIGH, N.C. – A Wake County man died Thursday morning when his truck slipped off a jack and fell on top of him.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office said 71-year-old Merle Roger Tobias was working on the pickup truck around 8:40 a.m. in the driveway of a residence in the 1100 block Taos Trail south of Garner.

The truck slipped off of the jacks while Tobias was underneath, crushing him.

WRAL-TV reported that Tobias was rotating the tires on the truck when the jack slipped.

Tobias' wife left the residence to run errands before the incident occurred, authorities said.
