Horry County Police investigate a burglary at the Dollar General on 707 in Socastee. The report indicates it had been burglarized January 16, and the safe was missing. Someone forced their way into the business at the side of the building. The suspect removed the screws fastening the aluminum structure, then removed the aluminum,and broke through the sheet rock to gain entry.
Police say the security room was broken into with a large hole in the door next to the lock. The security system was also damaged and pieces were lying on the floor. It also appeared the subject had turned off the circuit breakers in the back stockroom to keep the lights from coming on. The police report states about $3600 was inside the safe, which was taken. It was located between the cash registers.
The left side cash register was completely destroyed as well as the surrounding structure. T other cash register was damaged. A glove and flashlight near the register were left behind and taken into evidence.
Outside of the building in the parking lot a small hand dolly was located that had been removed from the rear stockroom. The security surveillance camera was able to be repaired. You can see a male subject covering his head and face with a hoodie or stocking on the video. He's also wearing black gloves.
No arrests at this time. The store has been closed while repairs are made.
