A commercial that aired during Sunday night's Super Bowl starred Wando High School graduate and former Furman student Shannon Cantwell.

The commercial begins with an excited Shannon Cantwell embracing her boyfriend, Lt. Chuck Nadd, after his return home from Afghanistan. They drive to Winter Park, Florida where the VFW told Lt. Nadd, “This is all for you.”  Shannon laughs and asks, “Are you serious?”

The commercial then has a ticker tape parade for Cantwell and Lt. Nadd as they ride on the Budweiser carriage through the streets to a cheering crowd.

Cantwell, a Wando graduate from 2007, was told by a friend to enter Lt. Nadd into a contest put on by the VFW to honor one soldier coming home from Afghanistan.  She thought that he would be the perfect candidate.

The 60 second ad has been put on many of the best-of lists for this year's Super Bowl ads.

Cantwellwas a track athlete at Wando, named Miss Wando in 2007, and attended Furman University as a member of their track team. In 2009 Cantwell founded Athletes for Africa after serving orphaned children in Swaziland.

The non-profit organization sent three separate mission trips since 2010 and plans on more. The College of Charleston has sent some athletes to work with this organization.
