An Horry County couple has been charged in the death and disappearance of a 20-year-old Myrtle Beach woman, who has been missing since before Christmas.
The married couple, Sidney Stclair Moorer and Tammy Lorinda Caison Moorer, have a long history in Horry County, with Sidney a Myrtle Beach native and Tammy Moorer, age 41, having graduated from Socastee High School in 1990.
Horry County Police say that Sidney Moorer, age 38, had a relationship with Heather Elvis and was listed on the original police report when the young woman went missing. It's not clear if the relationship was over before Elvis vanished on Dec. 18., the night that police say the couple killed her.
Each Moorer has stressed in interviews with media and on Facebook that they had nothing to do with Elivs' disappearance.
The couple, who are also charged with kidnapping, obstruction of justice and indecent exposure in connection with the case, have 3 children and are avid fans of Disney. A “Disney camper” that the family owns and uses for trips to the theme park has been searched by police.
Sidney Moorer's name was first linked publicly with Heather Elvis just days after her disappearance.
Police spoke to Sidney Moorer and he told them that he had not seen Elvis since October, but admitted the pair talked the night Heather Elvis went missing, according to a police report from December 19. Moorer told police in that report that he called Heather Elvis to tell her to stop contacting him and that was their only contact.
However, police noted that Sidney Moorer's claim was contradicted by what Heather Elvis told her roommate that same night.
“Cpl Furr spoke with (Sidney Moorer), via telephone, and stated that he has not seen the victim since October, and then admitted to have spoken to her on the phone last night. (Sidney Moorer) stated that he called (Heather Elvis) to tell her to quit calling him and that was it. (Sidney Moorer's) statement contradicts what the victim supposedly told (Brianna Warrelmann),” according to the police report.
Sidney Moorer is the owner of an at-home business, which is listed as an entity that performs “home and business remodels and maintenance for 11 years,” according to data on Angie's List website.
Sidney Moorer lists nearly 2 dozen places where they have vacationed in the past, including recent areas such as the Bahamas, Nassau, Key West and Orlando, according to his Facebook profile.
His Facebook page is called “2DisneyKidsInLove4ever” and Sidney Moorer's page features a “cover photo” of his stomach with a “Tammy” tattoo and a handgun in a holster on his right hip.
Just over 3 weeks after Elvis disappeared, Sidney Moorer ran in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon as part of the “Give Kids the World” Team. According to Tammy Moorer, without training for the run, he raised $4,000 for the non-profit that fulfills wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
Tammy Moorer has told police that she lost her job recently because she is tied to the case. It's not clear what Tammy Moorer did before her job loss, but she does list on Facebook that she can help plan Disney trips and excursions. She had a website dedicated to help folks plan trips to Disney, but that website is now not functioning.
The couple told authorities that just last week – a 2 days before they were arrested – that someone tried to shoot them while they were traveling as a family in Georgetown County.
Just before their arrest last week, each of them posted an anti-cyberbulling photo that calls for an end to rumors, gossip, threats and name-calling.
Since being jailed, they have been separated from the general population and for their safety are in protective custody inside J Reuben Long Detention Center, jail officials say.
They reside in an area along Highway 814 that encompasses several homes, Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson said on WRNN radio on Monday morning.
Richardson told the radio station that only the house in which the Moorer's live on the property was searched. Tammy Caison's father lives adjacent to the couple.
Sidney Moorer has been arrested in the past for assault and charges were later dropped.
“A few years ago the neighbor attacked my handicapped father in law,” Moorer explained on Facebook just days ago.
“I pulled the neighbor off of him and all three of us got arrested. Long story short, all charges were dropped. For some reason people think I'm ashamed of this. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if someone attacked my father in law today.”
The pair have acknowledged that Sidney Moorer had a relationship with Heather Elvis and that they had – at one point – an open marriage.
