A Horry County Police officer is back on duty after police say she accidentally shot herself in the leg.
Officers responded to a Conway home where Officer Tysheena May was staying around 3:45 a.m. on February 23.
According to police, the home belonged to another woman, and the pair had been out all night. The woman told police she was in her own bed when she heard the fire alarm go off. She said she then went into the bedroom where Officer May was staying to check on her, and found her laying on the bed with no clothes on and blood splattered all over the room.
According to the police report, Officer May told the other woman she was securing her firearm to place it in the closet. The responding officer noted what appeared to be gunshot wounds to Officer May's left hand and right thigh.
Conway Police and Horry County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene.
Officer May has since been cleared by medical staff and is now back on full duty.
