Lumberton police investigate the stabbing of of a motel owner Sunday morning.  Police say Ashok Vyas, 62, owner of the Deluxe Inn, was stabbed twice in the chest and stomach.

Police responded to an assault call at the motel on Capuano Street. When police arrived, they found the doors locked but a trail of blood leading to the counter and the phone off the hook.

Vyas was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Lumberton police have identified the suspect. The unnamed 45-year-old Pembroke suspect is hospitalized with an unrelated injury. Police will release his name when he is formally charged.
