J.Crew faces backlash over a very “tiny” choice for customers, a size 000 addition for its women’s clothing.
The size is equivalent to a 23 inch waist and is the same as XXXS. J. Crew is now offering the size in pants.
“I won’t support J.Crew’s decision to expand their sizing downward because it feeds into the notion that clothing size is a scarlet letter,” Capitol Hill Style wrote. “The practical and reasonable thing to do would be to create a measurement’s guide that isn’t abhorrently dishonest, accepting that the brand now sells size 24 clothing.”
J. Crew said that it was not vanity sizing, but a blog site called J. Crew Aficionada says otherwise…
“I also find it difficult to believe that I am smaller size-wise today than ten years ago, despite weighing slightly more,” a woman on the blog wrote.
Still, J. Crew says it is for real.
“We are simply addressing the demand coming from Asia for smaller sizes than what we had carried. Our sizes typically run big and the Asia market tends to run small,” the spokeswoman said. “To further put into perspective, these sizes add up to the smallest possible percentage of our overall sizing assortment.”
