South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate a deadly wreck on I-95 northbound near exit 190.
Part of the highway was shut down while emergency vehicles were on scene of the crash that took the life of a 26-year-old Charleston-area man.
A tractor trailer and SUV were involved in the wreck around 10:30 am Tuesday. Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the driver of a Subaru Outback heading south, swerved to avoid tire debris in the roadway, lost control and crossed the median. The car struck a tractor trailer in the northbound lane.
A passenger in the Subaru was killed and two others passengers in the SUV were taken to McLeod in Dillon. The driver of the Subaru was taken to McLeod in Florence. The driver of the tractor trailer was not hurt.
Christopher Tarrell Rush, age 26, of North Charleston was the passenger who died in the crash, said Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley.
There was at least a six mile backup and many people messaged WBTW saying traffic was at a standstill for some time, even hours after the wreck happened.
