When country music star — and former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman — Darius Rucker came to CCU for a concert last month, he also filmed a video.
Dozens of folks from Conway and the Grand Strand ended up as extras in the video for “Homegrown Honey” – and so did News13 Meteorologist Frank Johnson.
Frank, who was a concert-goer that day with his wife, ended up in a couple of scenes of the video by chance on Aug. 23 when Rucker was at CCU. Frank says he just wanted to see Rucker – but ended up in the video.
(We) “heard that they were going to shoot a video near the track… so we went early. Once we got there, there was nobody near the track, so we figured that we missed our chance to see Darius,” Frank explains.
“My wife and I were walking around campus, taking pictures near the tour bus, and noticed a crowd of people at the arena. We went in, and eventually got to a table where they had us sign a waiver, and before we knew it, we were being lined up for the video shoot.”
Frank appears in scene in a hallway – and at one point appears to toast Rucker and two other folks with a teal-colored Solo cup (in the video, it’s black and white).
It took 2 hours to film the small parts in the hall, Frank says.
“They shot several takes of Darius walking down the hallway, then cleared everybody out. Then they called a handful of people back in, and shot a few more takes,” Frank said.
“It was fun to hang out with Darius Rucker and his crew between takes.”
