Heavy flames and smoke poured from a three-story home located in Garden City. The call came in just after 9:30 Monday morning to the 2000 block of South Waccamaw Drive. Mutual Aid was requested because there was word someone was inside at the time of the fire. Crews from Surfside Beach, Horry County, Murrells Inlet and Garden City fire all responded to the fire in Georgetown County. The occupant was able to get out safely.
Assistant Chief J.R Haney with Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire tells News13 at one point the air conditioning units on the roof gave way and fell through the center of the structure causing a partial collapse on the second and third floors. All the firefighters evacuated and nobody was hurt.
No word on the cause. The fire is out but they are still working to put out hot spots.
