Charlotte police say an all-night standoff ended after a man suspected of killing his wife in South Carolina shooting himself.
Multiple media reports Sunday cited Charlotte-Mecklenburg police as saying Damien Lamer Williams of Greenville, South Carolina, shot himself at America’s Best Motel in northern Charlotte.
Police Major Johnny Jennings said Williams barricaded himself in a motel room shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday with two teenage acquaintances.
Police say the 12-hour standoff ended after police heard a gunshot from inside the room, blew an opening through the barricaded door and found Williams in critical condition inside. He was rushed to a hospital.
South Carolina authorities said he is the husband of 31-year-old Vanessa Williams, who was found dead inside her Greenville home on Saturday.
