4 injured in fight at Lee Co., VA federal prison

LEE COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – Multiple law enforcement crews are at the United States Penitentiary in Lee County, Virginia after reports of a fight inside the prison.

WJHL, sister station to WBTW, reports Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons confirmed his officers were on their way to the prison. Parsons said prison officials have called for “as many rescue squads as we can get.”

Virginia State Police say four people have been taken by ambulance to a hospital.

USP Lee is a high security men’s prison operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. It’s located in the Lee County Industrial Park. It is home to almost 1,700 inmates.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons describe it as a high security penitentiary with an adjacent minimum security lockup.

According to the the prison website, 1,577 of those inmates are in the prison with 107 in the camp.
