The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 25-year-old Savanah Morgan of Gray Court after they found her child unresponsive in a feces filled home with dead animals.
Deputies responded to a residence on Martins Lake Road after receiving a complaint about an injured child.
When deputies arrived they reported a two-year-old child was unresponsive and had serious bodily injuries and was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Two other children, a 1-year-old and 2-year-old, inside the home were taken in DSS custody.
Victim’s advocate Joel Turner says the child is looking at a major road to recovery. He says it’s some of the worst he’s ever seen. He says the child has brain bleeding and retinal issues.
Deputies say the house was filthy and had 88 animals living inside. The animals included cats, dogs, rodents, and reptiles, some of which were poisonous.
80% of the animals were dead.
According to the report there were 3 dogs, 6 dead tarantulas, 4 bearded dragons (2 dead), 4 snakes, 10 dead pythons, two turtles, 11 dead gerbils & 48 dead rats
They say they were in plastic bins with other types of cages. Two of the dogs that were chained up behind the home had no food or water and their tail bone and rib cages were showing.
The deputy said he immediately noticed the deplorable living conditions and a foul odor inside the home.
Animal feces was found all over the home along with trash and unsafe living conditions.
The report says the father of the child led the deputy to the bedroom where there were soiled diapers, feces, broken glass, and trash on the floor.
