Georgetown County man faces charges after Saturday morning shooting

GARDEN CITY, S.C. (WBTW)-The Georgetown County Sheriff’s arrested a Garden City man after a family altercation Saturday morning.

Deputies say just before 3:00 a.m., Georgetown County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of possible shots fired at a residence in Garden City.

Sheriff’s deputies spoke with the wife of the suspect, who explained, an altercation occurred between the suspect and their teenage son. The altercation escalated when the suspect obtained a handgun and fired into the residence.

Deputies say the time of the altercation, there were four individuals below the age of 17 inside the residence.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old Robert Maittand Rumph in connection with the call.

Rumph is charged with one count Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime, two counts Assault and Battery First Degree, three counts Kidnapping, one count Discharging Firearms into a Dwelling, and four counts Unlawful Conduct towards a Child.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Horry County Police and the South Carolina Highway Patrol set up a perimeter and secured the location. Several attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful. Rumph was taken into custody when he exited the residence and attempted to enter one of his vehicles. No injuries were sustained.

Robert Maittand Rumph is currently being housed at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
