SANDUSKY, Oh. (WIVB) — A man is dead in Ohio, killed by a roller coaster at one of the nation’s most popular amusement parks.
Officials from Cedar Point say the man died at about 5 p.m. when he bypassed a fence at the park to look for a lost cellphone. The enclosed area belonged to the Raptor, a large roller coaster.
While in the enclosed area, officials say the Raptor struck the man, and he succumbed to his wounds before first responders could attempt to treat him. Park safety officials say they responded to the scene soon after.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this time,” Cedar Point said in a statement.
Police in Ohio remained on the scene into the evening, conducting an official investigation into the accident.
