MANNING- The Monarchs won at least eight games each year from 2004-2010, but they’ve surpassed that plateau just once the last four seasons.
Part of that could stem from their move up to Class 3A in 2012. The Monarchs have gone just 9-11 the last two seasons.
“Everyone has to come with the mentality that we’re manning. It’s a tradition. We have to be manning, play manning football, that’s what were known for,” senior lineman Ian Vincent said.
This year, they lose physical running back Raquan Bennett (who signed with Coastal Carolina) along with 6-8, 300-pound lineman Hazen Williams and other key players along the line. However, quarterback Donny Baker returns and should be a key player.
“We’ll all be successful if everyone will just be focused and not want to do their own thing, jutst listen to the coach,” senior running back Twon Collymore said.
“I’m very optimistic in the kids working out. This summer has been very intense and we’re excited about this season coming up now,” said head coach Tony Felder.
