Myrtle Beach, SC (PRESS RELEASE) – The American Heart Association has selected Shawn Godwin to serve as chair of this year’s Waccamaw Heart Walk.
Shawn Godwin is the President of Palmetto Corp, a fully integrated complete site development and construction company. The third generation owner of Palmetto Corp, Mr. Godwin joined the company in 1994 after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Owner-Managed Management. Under his leadership, Palmetto Corp has evolved from a paving company to a diversified complete site development, vertical construction, and custom home building company. Born and raised in Conway, Mr. Godwin now resides in Myrtle Beach with his wife and two daughters and is an active member of our community.
Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s national premier event and is as much an awareness raiser as a fundraiser. This event demonstrates the support for the American Heart Association’s mission to promote physical activity and healthy heart living through the community’s involvement.
“Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for South Carolina residents, but we can live longer, healthier lives though exercise, diet, and education,” says Godwin.
“Last year the Heart Walk raised over $193,000 in the fight against heart disease and stroke,” said Godwin. “This year, we want to hit $235,000 while having fun and educating the public. It’s easy for people in Myrtle Beach to get involved. By forming or joining a fundraising team, you are fighting against cardiovascular disease and increasing awareness.”
“I encourage my colleagues along the Grand Strand to support the Heart Walk by enlisting their companies and employees to participate this year. We all share the Association’s goals and I look forward to doing my part in raising funds for the fight against heart disease and stroke.”
The Waccamaw Heart Walk is an opportunity for people to initiate changes in their health through walking, while raising funds to help prevent heart disease and stroke – America’s number one and five killers. The annual event is a non-competitive, three-mile walk in which teams are created by employees from local companies, along with friends and family members of all ages.
The Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, October 17th, 2015 at Broadway at the Beach in Celebrity Square. The activities will kick off at 9:00 am and the walk begins at 10:00 am. The neighboring communities will walk together to raise funds to prevent disability and death from the nation’s number one and number five killers – cardiovascular disease and stroke.
