U of SC, local groups team to improve access to healthy food

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The University of South Carolina’s school of public health and its medical school are teaming up with community organizations to help people get increased access to fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables.

The program is called Food Share Columbia and kicks off Wednesday.

The program helps people purchase a box of affordable, locally produced fruits and vegetables through a weekly pickup system.

Representatives of the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department, the Richland Library, EdVenture Children’s Museum and the Columbia Housing Authority are holding an open house to explain the program.
