Conway, SC – “Test of Character: How Good (or Bad) Are We?” kicks off the Philosopher’s Corner lecture series at Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Christian Miller, associate professor of philosophy at Wake Forest University, and author of “Character and Moral Psychology and Moral Character: An Empirical Theory,” will give a talk on empirical methods that allow us to assess character. The lecture will consider questions such as: Are we as honest as we think we are? Do some people have the virtues of compassion and courage? Would it be more correct to say that some people act in certain situations as if they had such virtues, but lack those character traits?
