September events from Southeastern Health in Lumberton


Lumberton, NC – Southeastern Health has planned the following events for September.

Breakfast at Biggs Park Mall  Learn about heart health and enjoy a healthy breakfast on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 8 a.m. in the retail space beside J.C. Penny at Biggs Park Mall in Lumberton. Southeastern Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Manager Ash Walker will present a program on “Risk Factors in Heart Health.” The event is sponsored by Biggs Park Mall and Southeastern Health’s Community Health Education Center (C.H.E.C.). Get Moving at C.H.E.C. Southeastern Health Clinical Exercise Physiologist Candace Langston will present the program “Get Moving” on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Health Education Center (C.H.E.C.) located across from the Mall office at Biggs Park Mall in Lumberton. Hospice volunteer training  Southeastern Hospice will host a training course for new volunteers interested in assisting hospice patients and their families in homes or at Southeastern Hospice House. Attendees are required to attend all sessions, which will be held Tuesday and Thursday mornings, September 10 – 24, from 9 – 11:30 am. The training will be held at Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive in Lumberton. Volunteers must consent to a background check (paid for by the agency) and TB skin test (provided by the agency). Each volunteer session is designed to increase awareness of issues important to the care of dying patients and their families, including hospice philosophy, concepts of dying, family dynamics; communication skills, and aging and reminiscing. Applications are being accepted through September 3.To register or for more information, contact Southeastern Hospice Volunteer Program Leader Sheryl Taylor at 735-8915 or Southeastern Hospice and Southeastern Hospice House are affiliates of Southeastern Health.

Free wellness event planned for Laurinburg Walmart  A free community health and wellness event will be held on Wednesday, September 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter, 901 US-401, Laurinburg. The event will offer free healthy food samples, healthy eating tips, health awareness information, sun safety tips, tours of the Wellness on Wheels (WOW) bus, and blood pressure and diabetes screenings. Immunizations will be offered at free or reduced cost based on insurance. The event is co-sponsored by Southeastern Health’s Community Health Services, Homegrown Health, and Walmart. Adult Bereavement Support Group Southeastern Hospice will host an Adult Bereavement Support Group for adults experiencing grief due to the loss of loved one through death.  The support group is open to the public.  The group will meet starting on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 beginning at 6:30 pm and will meet for four consecutive Thursdays, ending on October 1.  Meetings will last approximately 90 minutes and will be held in the conference room at Southeastern Hospice House, 1100 Pine Run Drive, Lumberton, NC.  For more information, please contact Rev.
