The South Carolina Department of Public Safety says nine people died on state roads this past weekend (8/28-30).
Overall, road deaths are up… statewide… 19.1 percent from this point last year.
DPS reports 612 have died on state roads. That’s the most through August in at least the past four years.
Statewide, pedestrian deaths are up 19.6 percent.
Motorcycle deaths are up 47.6%.
Horry County leads the state with the most overall road deaths this year. It’s has 53, compared to 33 at this point last year.
Road deaths in Horry and Georgetown counties combined are up 65.8 percent.
Road deaths are up 38.8 percent this year in the Pee Dee.
That’s led by big increases in Florence and Darlington counties. They’ve had 34 deaths, compared to 21 at this point in 2014.
