CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – A Charleston hospital patient has been arrested after police say he assaulted 14 staff and security members.
Charleston police told local media outlets that the unidentified 29-year-old man was taken to jail after Tuesday night’s incident at Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital.
Police say the patient is charged with several counts of third-degree assault and battery.
Police say the assault began when the man threw a cup of ice at a nurse who told him to take his medication. Police say the patient became agitated, attacking several members of the hospital staff.
Hospital spokesman Andy Lyons says no patients were hurt. Lyons says staff members who were injured were treated and released.
Lyons says the hospital is continuing to investigate the incident.
