Blueberries may be the key to healthier gums

CBS News – Blueberry extract could be a tool for fighting gum disease. The condition occurs when bacteria creates plaque on the teeth, causing the gums to become red and inflamed. Scientists with the American Chemical Society found that blueberry extract may prevent that plaque from forming and reduce the need for antibiotics. New research finds exercise is safe for patients with pulmonary hypertension. That’s high blood pressure that affects the lungs and heart. Doctors have been cautious about prescribing physical activity. But a study of more than 400 patients found it had a positive effect on heart function and improved the quality of life. Washington D.C. is reporting progress in controlling the spread of HIV . Researchers at the Milken Institute say the city’s needle exchange program prevented 120 new infections and saved 44-million dollars over a two year period.
