GREENVILLE – The Greenville County Sheriff announced during a press conference Thursday morning that a 13-year-old admitted to deputies that he stabbed his mother to death in Simpsonville.
Isabel Cristina Zuluaga, 44, was found Tuesday morning at her home on Hipps Avenue. The coroner said Zuluaga died from multiple stab wounds to her torso.
A contractor who was doing work on the home arrived Tuesday morning and went under the crawlspace to do his work, that’s where he saw the teen, according to the sheriff. The contractor also saw blood dripping from the home into the crawlspace, according to the sheriff. The contractor went inside the home and found Zuluaga dead in a bedroom, all according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies found her son- a student at Bryson Middle School – walking along Woodruff Road later that morning near the Spartanburg County line. The 13-year old remains in custody.
Sheriff Loftis said once the teen was in custody, the teen admitted to stabbing his mother. The Sheriff says the teen has shown no remorse.
The 13th Circuit Solicitor will petition to the Family Court Judge on how the teen should be charged. The teen will then be evaluated for 30 to 45 days and the judge will decide whether the teen will be charged as an adult.
The teen’s name will not be released, unless it’s decided that he will be tried as an adult.
