Pelicans hold off rally, even series with Dash

MYRTLE BEACH – Myrtle Beach overcame a long rain delay and a late rally to beat Winston-Salem 4-3 and stay alive in the Carolina League Playoffs Thursday.

The Pelicans tied the Southern Division Championship Series 1-1 and forced a deciding Game 3 tonight at Field.

Myrtle Beach led 4-1 entering the ninth inning before weather forced a delay. When the game resumed, the Dash scored two runs on fielder’s choice ground outs to pull within 4-3, but Nick Basto struck out to end the game.

Brad Markey dazzled on the hill for Myrtle Beach, taking a no-hitter into the eighth. For the night, he gave up just one hit and struck out eight.
