North Carolina firefighter killed in Conway crash Saturday

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW)- Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a deadly crash in Conway on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Highway Patrol website it happened at 2:17 on 6019 Highway 701 South at Browns Chapel Road in Conway.

Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden identified the biker who died as Jerry David Jackson, Jr. He was 49 years old and from Dunn, North Carolina.

Lance Corporal Jones with the Highway Patrol reports the drivers of three Harley Davidson motorcycles were traveling north on Highway 707 as the driver of a 2006 Saturn was pulling from a private driveway onto the Highway 701. Troopers say two of the motorcycles were hit first and then the bike Jackson was on was hit.

Our sister station WNCN reports Jackson was a firefighter and paramedic with Dunn Emergency Services.

On Sunday, the flag at the station flew at half staff and a message was posted on the station’s sign: “In Memory of Capt. Jerry Jackson.”

The coroner says he died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.

The other drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating.
