NORTH MYRTLE BEACH (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Pelicans manager Mark Johnson was arrested just hours after the team won the Carolina League championship early Thursday morning for a variety of charges, including driving drunk.
According to a police report, the 40-year-old Johnson failed multiple sobriety tests and ultimately, through a breath test, registered his blood alcohol content as 0.22, nearly three times the legal limit.
After North Myrtle Beach police tried to pull him over early Thursday morning near Barefoot Resort, officers say Johnson did not stop at first and later was taken into custody after he stopped near Greenbriar Apartments.
Johnson is charged with driving under the influence, having an open container in a vehicle, and changing lanes unlawfully.
He was booked at J. Reuben Long Detention Center and released on Thursday afternoon.
