First ceremony held at Veterans Plaza in North Myrtle Beach

Veterans honored fallen soldiers at the first ceremony at the new Veterans Plaza in North Myrtle Beach on Sunday.

The memorial completed last week, honors all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in america’s wars.

Veterans from each branch of the armed forces raised their respective flags.

The quilts of valor also surprised purple heart recipient Tom Swann with a quilt in honor of his service.

“it’s very emotional, very emotional. It’s a big honor to have so many people that you know care about you, that you don’t realize til something like this happens,” said Swann.

Sunday’s ceremony is a precourser to a larger dedication planned for November.
