Rare supermoon eclipse happened late Sunday night

Stargazers got a double celestial treat Sunday night: A total lunar eclipse combined with a supermoon.

That’s when a full moon makes its closest approach to Earth, appearing bigger and brighter than usual.

It’s the first time the twin events have occurred since 1982. It won’t happen again until 2033.

The events began on the East Coast at 10:11 p.m.
