Suspect vehicle details released in Little River moped death

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WBTW) – Officials have identified the moped driver killed in an early-morning hit-and-run in Little River, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

LCpl. Judd Jones said the moped was traveling north on U.S. Highway 17 near Landing Road when another vehicle hit the moped around 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday. Jones said the other vehicle was also traveling north, and the highway patrol is currently searching for that other vehicle.

Corporal Sonny Collins with SCHP says troopers are searching for a dark color 1997-2004 Ford Expedition with damage to the front of the vehicle on the driver’s side.

Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler with the Horry County Coroner’s Office identifies the victim as 37-year-old Adolph Fiorilla, of North Myrtle Beach. Fowler says Fiorilla died of massive head trauma as a result of being struck by another vehicle.

The manner of Fiorilla’s death, which had been ruled a homicide Tuesday afternoon by the Deputy Coroner, was later corrected to be “still under investigation.” In a statement released Tuesday at 1:44 p.m., Fowler explained:

The fatality in Little River is still under investigation at this time. The manner has not been determined. Please retract homicide.” – Darris G Fowler Deputy Coroner
