Myrtle Beach, SC – Grand Strand Health will sponsor seminars in October about breast cancer, post discharge services, fall prevention and secondary stroke prevention. All events are held at HealthFinders at Coastal Grand Mall, beside Dillard’s.
A Breast Cancer Survivors Night will be held on Tuesday, October 13 from 6 – 7:30 pm. Breast cancer survivors and those currently battling breast cancer are invited to join us for a fun night of art and comradery. Participants will paint their own breast cancer awareness portrait while enjoying the company of fellow survivors. Light refreshments will be provided, and one support person will be allowed to attend with the survivor. There is limited space available and registration is required.
On Thursday, October 15 from 6 – 7 pm a Grand Strand Health Case Manager will discuss what happens after you are discharged from the hospital. The case manager will speak about post discharge services and what services are often covered by insurance plans. Frequently asked questions about insurance and the hospital will also be discussed. Light refreshments will be provided.
Breast Cancer and Genetic Testing is the topic on Tuesday, October 20 from 6 – 7 pm with Surgical Breast Oncologist Randal Croshaw, MD, with Coastal Comprehensive Women’s Center. Dr. Croshaw will discuss symptoms, diagnosis and treatments of breast cancer. He will also speak about genetic testing for breast cancer, including who is a candidate and what the test reveals. Light refreshments will be provided.
Did you know every year one out of three adults over age 65 falls? The Importance of Preventing Falls is the topic on Wednesday, October 28 from 5 – 6:30 pm. Grand Strand Health’s
Injury Prevention Specialist Keely Muertos, MPH, will discuss who is at risk of falling and how to prevent it from happening. Podiatrist Scott Werter, DPM, with Coastal Podiatry Associates, will also discuss proper footwear that will assist in the prevention of falling. A balance test will be available for you to evaluate your risk.
Neurologist Robert Coni, DO, with Grand Strand Spine & Neuro Care, will discuss Secondary Stroke Prevention on Thursday, October 29 from 6 – 7 pm in honor of World Stroke Day. Dr. Coni will speak on how victims of stroke can prevent a second stroke from occurring. Prevention for those who have never suffered from a stroke will also be discussed.
