Murrells Inlet Sen. Cleary will not seek re-election

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Murrells Inlet Sen. Ray Cleary says he will not seek re-election next year.

The Republican told The Sun News on Wednesday he’s decided against seeking a fourth term in office.

Cleary says he wants to focus more on his dental practice and family.

He has been in the state Senate since 2005.

He represents parts of Horry, Georgetown and Charleston counties.

Cleary says he believes in term limits and has become more convinced of the importance of term limits the longer he has served.

Cleary serves on the education, finance, medical affairs and transportation committees.

Myrtle Beach Sen. Luke Rankin says Cleary’s retirement will leave a void.
