First Ever Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Beach Walk Set for October 24

Myrtle Beach, SC – The inaugural American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Beach Walk, hosted by Vacation Myrtle Beach resort group, is scheduled Saturday morning, Oct. 24.  The beach walk is open free to the public, while donations to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will be accepted.

The 4K walk begins at 9 a.m. Participants can choose to start and end at Myrtle Beach’s Crown Reef Resort, 2913 S. Ocean Blvd, or Landmark Resort, 1501 S. Ocean Blvd.  Post walk festivities feature refreshments served by PF Chang’s, entertainment by local radio personalities, breast cancer survivor speakers, and more starting at 10 a.m. at both resorts.   Pre-registration is not required. Participants can park at either the Crown Reef Resort or the Landmark Resort by 9 a.m. on October 24, and resort staff will direct them to the beach walk.

Cancer survivors who participate in the walk will receive a free t-shirt and survivor pin. All participants who donate $25 or more will receive an event t-shirt.

“We are so excited to be working with the American Cancer Society to start the first Making Strides event in Myrtle Beach,” said Matt Klugman, director of sales and marketing for Vacation Myrtle Beach.  “We had known that there are other Making Strides events in the Carolinas, and we always believed that we really needed our own event in Myrtle Beach to honor those who have battled breast cancer.  We are excited to make that a reality on October 24.”

Lisa Bishop, senior manager of community events for the American Cancer Society, South Atlantic Division, expressed her enthusiasm for the event.

“We have partnered with Vacation Myrtle Beach through various fundraisers for several years now, and we decided that we could work together to create what we believe will be a successful annual event for the entire Myrtle Beach community for years to come,” said Bishop. “Myrtle Beach has always been important for our organization, so it just made sense to have a community event that’s a celebration for our combined efforts.”

Vacation Myrtle Beach will be offering a special Making Strides rate for beach visitors staying over the weekend where $5 from every reservation will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
