Night club fight leads to murder charge for Hemingway man

Frankie J. Hampton Jr. is charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime.

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A 22-year-old Hemingway man is in jail after deputies say he shot and killed another man following a fight at Club Recess Sunday night.

Investigator Alex Edwards with Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office says Frankie J. Hampton Jr, 22, was arrested Sunday night and is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Deputies responded to a shooting at State Highway 41 South located in Hemingway where they located Damien L. Hewitt, 22, of Johnsonville, unresponsive after being shot. The Williamsburg County Coroner’s Office pronounced Hewitt deceased at the scene.

Hampton will appear before a Williamsburg County Magistrate for an explanation of the charge against him, adds Investigator Edwards. Hampton will remain at the Williamsburg County Detention Center until a bond hearing can be scheduled.
