Police: Pawleys Island man responds to emergency calls, poses as public official

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – Georgetown County deputies say a Pawleys Island man is behind bars after reportedly responding to numerous fires within the county posing as a first responder.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested Erik Allen Weddell, 47, of Pawleys Island for impersonating a public official. Weddell is not affiliated with any fire departments in Georgetown County, according to Public Information Officer Carrie Weaver.

Weddell is charged with one count of impersonating a public official.
