Grand Strand Health Sponsors Classes and Screenings in November

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Grand Strand Health will sponsor classes in November about challenges after surgery and illness, post discharge services and CPR. Screenings for diabetic foot problems and stroke risk will also be offered. All events are held at HealthFinders at Coastal Grand Mall, beside Dillard’s.

You can outsmart diabetes at our Diabetic Foot Screenings on Monday, November 9 from 6 – 7:30 pm. Join Podiatrists Scott Hamilton, DPM, and Joseph Menn, DPM, with Coastal Podiatry Associates, for a FREE diabetic foot screening. Registration is required.

On Tuesday, November 10 from 3 – 5 pm Stroke Risk Assessments will be available. High blood pressure, atrial fibrillation (a-fib) and smoking are a few risk factors for stroke. We will assess your stroke risk by a blood pressure check, pulse screening and reviewing other risk factors. This screening is not intended to treat, diagnose or prevent any disease. Registration is required.

Trauma Surgeon Akram Alashari, MD, with Grand Strand Surgical Care, will present Overcoming Challenges after Surgery or Critical Illness on Thursday, November 12 from 6 – 7 pm. Dr. Alashari will discuss challenges for people who are suffering with illnesses and injuries, along with ways to overcome them.

A Grand Strand Health Case Manager will discuss what happens after you are discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, November 18 from 6 – 7 pm. The case manager will speak about post discharge services and what services are often covered by insurance plans. Frequently asked questions about insurance and the hospital will also be discussed.

On Tuesday, November 24 from 2 – 5 pm a Heartsaver CPR AED Class will be held. Participants will learn adult, child and infant CPR, how to relieve a foreign-body obstruction in an airway and proper use of an AED. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card for CPR and AED. Fee: $35 includes book and certification. Registration is required.
