FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A Florence woman is being charged with the death of her infant after the child’s autopsy revealed the manner of death as homicide.
According to a press release from Major Michael Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Jessica Lynn Mamauz, 23, of Florence, is charged with homicide by child abuse. Major Nunn reports that the sheriff’s department worked with the Florence County Coroner’s Office to determine the charge after the 3-month-old died August 29.
Investigators concluded that Mamaux caused the infant’s death by placing an object in the baby’s mouth, which suffocated the child.
Mamaux is being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing before a Circuit Court judge.
