MYRTLE BEACH – Christmas is still a week away, but that didn’t stop Santa Claus from paying a visit to the Grand Strand.
Saint Nick rode a fire truck through the Racepath Community Thursday and handed out gifts to about 50 kids. It was part of NBA star Ramon Sessions’ annual toy drive to help out his home community.
Sessions couldn’t be there himself. He’s busy playing basketball with the Washington Wizards right now. But he made sure Santa could make it to deliver presents for the kids.
“When Ramon was growing up, he was just like the rest of the kids that are here now – he didn’t have,” Sylvia Sessions, Ramon’s mother, said. “He knows what it’s like to be that way, so he just wanted to put a smile on the kids faces.”
Sylvia Sessions helps organize the event. It’s the second year she and Ramon have hosted it. Ramon also holds a turkey giveaway in Racepath each November and a basketball camp at Myrtle Beach High School every summer.
