DILLON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A man from Lumberton was killed on Interstate 95 in Dillon County on Saturday morning.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said a van was traveling south in the left lane when it hit the man walking in the roadway at mile marker 182. The pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley said Ralph Callahan, 65, died. He had gotten out of another vehicle and was walking across the interstate when he was hit, Grimsley said.
SCHP said the driver of the van was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt. None of the eight passengers in the van were hurt either.
Traffic was backed up in the area for hours after the crash.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said they are still investigating the incident.
