SPARTANBURG (AP) – Austin Kendall threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another to lead North Carolina to a 54-39 win over South Carolina Saturday in the 79th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
The 93 total points scored broke the previous high of 80 points in 2000.
Kendall is an Oklahoma commit from Cuthbertson High. He completed 13 of 16 passes for 190 yards and was named the Offensive MVP for North Carolina.
Cornell Powell from J.H. Rose High School returned a kickoff 98 yards and had a 27-yard touchdown catch for North Carolina. He is committed to Clemson.
Collin Hill from Dorman High School was the offensive MVP for South Carolina. The Colorado State commit completed 15 of 28 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his TD throws went to Chavis Dawkins of Byrnes High.
