Couple protects Myrtle Beach neighbor’s home from would-be burglar

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A couple in Myrtle Beach helped protect their neighbor’s home when he was out of town when a would-be burglar attempted to steal a television from the home on Southpark Drive.

Allen Atkins is charged with one count of burglary first degree.

Myrtle Beach Police responded to the home on Southpark Drive Tuesday morning around 8:12 a.m. after curious neighbors called police when they saw a man removing things from their neighbor’s house. The neighbors saw a flat screen television leaned up against the home, along with bags filled with food and clothing, according to the police report.

When the neighbors questioned the man, later identified as Allen Atkins, 41, he replied that the homeowner was allowing him to stay the night in the house. The report details how the doubtful neighbors called the homeowner, who was in North Carolina at the time, and confirmed that no one had the homeowner’s permission to be in the house.

Myrtle Beach officers later located Atkins, who was staying at The Palace hotel in Myrtle Beach, along with the stolen 32″ flat screen TV.

Atkins is charged with one count of burglary first degree.
