ESTILL, SC (WSAV) – The South Carolina police officer who was shot responding to a disturbance in the Low Country Friday morning is in stable condition.
According to Corporal K. Simmons with the Yemassee Police Department, the Estill Police Officer who was shot has been identified as Quincy Smith and he is in stable condition.
Cpl. Simmons confirms Officer Smith was responding to reports of a disturbance at the Box Bow convenience store in Hampton County when the shooting suspect, Malcolm Orr, attempted to flee the scene, pulled a gun and shot Smith.
Orr was captured in a backyard about a quarter-mile away from the scene. He has been charged with attempted murder which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison. He is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime which could be an additional five years.
He was booked into the Hampton County Detention Center
