MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach man was jailed early Wednesday morning after police say he was caught driving drunk with a child in the car, and attempted to switch seats with a passenger after being pulled over.
An incident report from Myrtle Beach Police states officers pulled over a Dodge Avenger just after midnight Wednesday morning on 17 Bypass near Palmetto Pointe Boulevard. Officers say 26-year-old Adrian Duvell Thomas was driving, but after pulling the car over he crawled into the backseat, and the car’s passenger slid into the driver’s seat.
The officer noticed the switch and asked Thomas to get out of the car. Thomas claimed he had not been drinking, but the report states Thomas “had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet, and his eyes appeared lethargic.” Thomas failed three different field sobriety tests administered by the officer.
The police report states there was a child riding in the back seat of the vehicle, but the child’s age was not given.
Thomas is charged with DUI, child endangerment and driving under suspension. He was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday.
