Teens charged after shooting death, armed robbery at SC Wal-Mart

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Two teenagers are charged with armed robbery and another teen is charged with murder following an incident where a man was shot at a North Charleston business.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, officers were dispatched to Roper Northwoods Emergency Center regarding a male suffering from a gunshot wound.

We’re told an acquaintance of the victim told police the incident took place in the parking lot of Wal-Mart on Rivers Avenue.

During the investigation, authorities learned the victim, later identified as 18-year-old Larry Grayer, and two others arranged a meeting at Walmart with 17-year-old Zarmell Polite to sell Polite marijuana and rob him.

During the attempted robbery, Polite and a person inside of the vehicle began shooting at each other as the vehicle attempts to leave the parking lot.

Grayer was struck by Polite and transported to Roper Northwoods where he later died.

Sixteen-year-old Zarmell Polite is being charged as an adult with: murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.  He is currently held at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

Deandre Montel Stevens, 18, and Aliya Young, 17, are both being charged with armed robbery.
