City leaders hope Restaurant Week will establish Grand Strand as culinary destination

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Restaurant week is an eleven-day celebration of South Carolina cuisine at hundreds of participating restaurants. The event runs from January 7 until January 17.

From fine to casual dining, participating restaurants will feature special menus items, promotions and discounts. Diners can sample our newest restaurants, dine at old favorites and taste a variety of exceptional dishes being prepared by chefs at a great value for customers.

Those deals are offered in the Myrtle Beach and the Florence area.

Ducatis Pizzeria is a newer business open for a little less than two years and this year it will participate in Restaurant Week for the second time as a way to get the name out.

“Well, I think for a long time a lot of people would visit Myrtle Beach and just be accustomed to the chain restaurants but this gives tourist as well as locals an opportunity to try some of the family owned, privately owned business that provide very good food,” Nick Stephanchik with Ducatis.

During the eleven day event, the restaurant will offer specials and that’s something employees hope will entice more people to come in.

“People are tired from the holidays, a lot of holiday shopping. People spend a lot of money and they probably aren’t in a position to go out and spend a lot of money on dinner but this gives them an opportunity to go out and try good food at a good value,” Stephanchik said.

The event is a concept city leaders want to take advantage of.

“It’s an opportunity and time for us to really talk about culinary tourism and building that brand. Obviously we’re well-known as a beach destination; well know as a family and golf destination. But obviously we’re still trying to build that culinary aspect of tourism and restaurant week is a big highlight of that part,” Myrtle Beach Hospitality President and CEO Stephen Greene said.

The city will also use the start of the Culinary program at HGTC this fall to boos those efforts.
