Parts of South Carolina face winter weather this weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – The northwestern part of South Carolina will be facing winter weather this weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for nine counties in the northwestern and central parts of the state. The warning begins Thursday night and runs through 7 p.m. Saturday.

Forecasters say snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible in the mountains of Greenville, Oconee and Pickens counties. Between 4 and 8 inches of snow is possible, along with a quarter inch of ice.

Snow, sleet and freezing rain is also possible in Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg and York counties. Up to 4 inches of snow is possible with up to a half inch of ice.

Freezing rain may also bring a quarter inch of ice in Chesterfield and Lancaster counties.
