Socastee High School to host blood drive, marrow donor event

Representatives with Be The Match will be at Socastee High School on Friday to help sign up potential bone marrow donors.

CONWAY (WBTW) — Socastee High School will host a blood drive and joint event with Be The Match this week to help identify blood marrow donors by offering sign-ups for a nationwide marrow registry.

The event is hosted by the student group HOSA, which is for students interested in the health profession.

It is from 9:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. in the school’s auxiliary gym.

To see if you are a blood marrow donor match is simple, according to the organization. It requires a cotton swab of the mouth and some paperwork. Patients who are willing to donate to potential matches (with patients who are suffering from a list of critical illnesses) have to be between 18 and 44 years old and in generally good health.
